Alfredo Kraus was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain. He became widely revered for his performances of Spanish zarzuela music. In 2000, the Spanish postal service recognized Kraus with an commemorative stamp as part of its personajes populares series. Kraus passed away peacefully on 10 September 1999 in Madrid.
