Alejandro Amenabar
As Alejandro Amenabar fled Chile following General Pinochet’s 1973 coup, he enrolled at Madrid’s Universidad Complutense; though he would later drop out and not complete his studies, Amenabar went on to produce Tesis (1996) which would become his debut feature film.
His 1998 Spanish film, La Historia Del Amor de los Dioses (The Hero), became a success and cemented his status as one of Spain’s great cinematic talents. His 2001 English-language movie, The Others starring Nicole Kidman and Penelope Cruz earned further accolades at Venice Film Festival as well as eight Goya awards. Additionally, he writes screenplays and composes music for his films himself.
Joaquin Sabina

Born in Ubeda in 1949, he started writing poetry and composing music at age 14. While at 14 he joined a rock band imitating Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry. El Inventario became his debut album for CBS (now Sony) before Alivio de Luto came out two years later in 2005 and two years after that Dos Pajaros de un Tiro was published two years after that.
Lola Flores
Lola Flores of Jerez de la Frontera quickly achieved national renown. She established herself as an influential figure of traditional Andalusian folklore and flamenco dance, spreading both around the globe.
In 1951 she signed a six-film deal with producer Cesareo Gonzalez who operated Spain’s equivalent of Hollywood studio system. Her glamorous appearance and aristocratic background quickly garnered press coverage.
She continued touring and making headlines until her death in 1995.

Beginning his career in the 1960s with Los Dayson band, he rose to stardom playing Jesus Christ in 1975 – an adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar which he both funded and produced a cast album for.

Sara Montiel was an iconic figure of Spanish cinema during the 1950s. Both her film El Ultimo Cuple and its soundtrack album became worldwide hits; her subsequent movie La Violetera saw similar success with audiences worldwide, before she continued releasing musical films and recording songs into later life.
As part of her short tour sponsored by New York’s Cervantes Institute and universities in Chicago and Cincinnati, she performed her one-woman show as well as recording an intense duet with Fangoria vocalist Alaska, creating quite an uproar with the press and public alike.
