Miguel Rios
Miguel Rios was an internationally-acclaimed musician. His most recognized work, A Morir (Till Death), an intricate three-channel video exploring power dynamics, globalization and violence through spinning black and white tops was widely appreciated.
Himno de la Alegria was written to commemorate Beethoven’s ninth Symphony’s final movement and became an anthem for global peace, propelling Rios to prominence within Spanish rock music as a superstar artist.
Miguel Rios Campaign was born in Granada and went on to record six EPs under his stage name of Mike Rios before rising to fame with his first movie Dos Chicas Locas Locas in 1975. By 1982 he had further cemented his career by recording live double album Rock & Rios; additionally he was an attentive father and grandfather who never missed one of his grandchildren’s sporting events or recitals.
Nino Bravo
Luis Manuel Ferri Llopis, better known by his stage name Nino Bravo, was a Valencian singer with a large fan base and numerous accolades to his name. A popular performer at festivals and song contests alike, Nino Bravo had been likened to Welsh crooner Tom Jones with its distinctive sound.
In 1973 he died tragically in a car accident en route to Madrid for an upcoming concert, leaving behind an impressive repertoire that would include timeless hits like Te Quiero Te Quiero and Un beso y una Flor. On the brink of even greater success he met his untimely death which sent shockwaves through Spain at only 28 years old.
Ana Torroja
Ana Torroja began her musical career in 1977 as part of a duo performance with Jose Maria Cano. Subsequently, Ana joined her brother Nacho to form Mecano; which would go on to sell millions of albums worldwide and tour extensively.
Ana decided to pursue her solo career following the dissolution of Mecano in 1999, when she released Pasajes de un Sueno (Passages of a Dream). This album received widespread critical acclaim and numerous awards.
In 2000, she joined Miguel Bose on his Girados tour across Spain, the US and parts of Latin America. Additionally, she collaborated on a duet album with Mexican artist Armando Manzanero and singer/composer Aleks Syntek.
In 2004, she released Puntos Cardinales for release in France, featuring new versions of old Mecano hits.
Enrique Iglesias
Enrique Iglesias is one of the most beloved Spanish pop singers. Bilingual with an expansive repertoire, he has featured in movies and TV shows alike.
He worked hard to remain independent from his father and avoid what became known as “Iglesias effect”. To achieve this goal, he secretly borrowed money from their nanny and started marketing demo tapes as Enrique Martinez.
“Bailamos” was Iglesias’ breakthrough hit in English, giving him recognition in the U.S. music market. After this success, he signed with Fonovisa and released his self-titled debut album with its blend of Latin and pop music that became an instant worldwide phenomenon.
Los Cafres
Los Cafres first emerged in Buenos Aires in 1987 as one of the pioneering bands of reggae en espanol music, and have become widely renowned for their smooth sound and profound lyrics.
Their music features a steady beat made up of softly played drums and guitar skanking, punctuated by an infectious horn section that adds subtle melodies and harmonies.
These reggae artists from Argentina are well-known for their signature sound of Argentine roots reggae and have shared stages with luminaries like Burning Spear, Toots & The Maytals and UB40. After touring extensively around America they will make an appearance in Tampa at Avalon Event Center on Aug 24.
